Still trying to get a routine...

Day 4 of 180
June 10 through 13-    Ok we are back from the beach. We were there the 11th through 13th and I am counting that as one day of home school because we definately learned while we were there. We collected different types of shells and sea weed. The girls used some of the money they have been earning to by a book about the hisoty of lighthouses and one about the different types of shells and animals that inhabit them. We were also fortunate enough to see a sand crab. I haven't seen one of those in a loooonnng time. *also note worthy was our visit to Murrells Inlet to see my science teacher from HS, Dona. When we were there I talked to the girls about marsh lands and we went on a walk learning about the different marsh animals and plants. then we came back to the campground and daddy taught the girls how to make smores! Very Educational!!! hehehe   We also read some books as well; "The Puppy who wanted a Boy" by Jane Thayer, "The night before Halloween" by Natasha Wing, and "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" by Dr. Seuss

Day 5 of 180
June 14th
A lot of today was invested in organizing the school room so we are better organized and have an easier time doing our lessons. In keeping with summer topics we spent about an hour looking over and reading " Scholastic Atlas of Oceans". Talk about wealth of information! It starts by telling what the different oceans andseas are in the world. Then it covers how the oceans were formed 4.6 billion years ago. Then on to the water cycle (which excitedthe girls since they learned this a couple weeks ago). Nextit goes into animals at each level of the ocean an that is just the halfway point. GREAT  BOOK! After that I had the girls practice writibg their names and phone # and their #'s 5,6,7 and 9 since they have troublegetting those backward. That was all for the day seeing as the Scholastic book covered most all the topics: Science, History/ Social Studies and Reading. Then we covered Writing and Math with their writing assignment!

Here we Gooooooo.

Day 1 of 180-
6/3/11-   Okay so the last day of public school was the 2nd. Friday the 3rd we started the day by heading to the Gaffney VFW, where I clean twice a week. Since the girls had to accompany me I decided to make it a lesson of money and responsibility. The girls are responsible for dusting and wiping down the tables and other surfaces while I sweep, clean bathrooms and mop. They earn $5 apiece for each time that they help. They can buy what they want with the money as long as it is educational in some way. So they can use it for a museum trip or book etc.  They did a great job and the place smelled like a Windex factory by the time we left.
We headed to the Cherokee county library after we finished cleaning and the girls selected about 25 books. I picked out a couple educational movies as well.  When we got  home I let the girls delve into their library books. Before the night was over they had read; "There is a bird on your head" by Mo Willems, "Knuffle Bunny" and "Knuffle Bunny Too" also by Mo Willems, Over in the Grasslands by Anna Wilson and Alison Bartlett, "Curious George Goes Camping" by Margaret & H.A. Rey and "My Camp-out" by Marcia Leonard.
We also had a Piano Lesson today. This is the first lesson so they started with leaning the keys and a basic scale. The girls took turns and while one was learning the piano the other played store with me so they can get some money practice in.
We finnished the night by watching IMAX Hubble narrated by Leonardo Decaprio.
It was a rather unplanned day so I am pleased with all that we accomplished!

6/4/11-
Not much accomplished as far as learning goes today. I was excited ecause we went to Barnes and Noble to hand in our summer reading forms. They have a great deal going on for children, when they read 8 books they can turn in the summer reading form for a free book. The girls picked DivingDolphin by Karen Wallace and Mercy Watson Thinks Like a Pig by Kate DiCamillo. I also discovered the wealth of educational workbooks for all the different areas of learning, science, math reading comprhension etc. Most were under $10 soo exciting! lol

6/5/11-
Today we went to church and I brought several sheets to keep the girls entertained during service. We had a lazy day at home. The girls entertained themselves by reading "The Pigeon Wants a Puppy" by Mo Willems, "Scaredy Squirrell at Night" and "Scaredy Squirrell has a Birthday Party" by Melanie Watt,  "Money- The Childs World" by Sara Pistoia, "The Old Woman who Named Things" by Cynthis Rylant, and "Llama, Llama Misses Mama" by Anna Dewdney.

Day 2 of 180-
6/6/11
Today we pulled our act together a little better and started the day with math. I had Riley write her #'s from 1-100 and Lilly work on her addition and Subtraction regrouping. Then Lilly worked on a reading comrehension sheet and Riley a ryhming words worksheet for their Reading. Then both girls practiced writing; Lilly her phone # and address and Riley wrote pond terms from a book we read last week. For our Science we read "Life in the Oceans' by Molly Grooms and "Diving Dolphins" by Karen Wallace. we also watched several of the episodes from season 1 of Meerkat Manor. LOVE IT!  We did an art project today as well. I drew a handful of ocean animals on a white paper and the girls colored the ones they wanted then cut them out and pasted them on Blue construction paper to make their ocean scene!
